About this deal

Nothing about the design of the Crosley C62 is going to startle or perturb - it looks exactly as you’d expect a turntable and a pair of compact bookshelf speakers to look. Bass is ill-defined and not particularly, well, bass-y – and the midrange, which is where the (ordinarily) character-packed vocal sits, lacks any projection. If you are looking for a system that you can hook up and enjoy, I highly recommend giving this unit a shot! That means spring clips for speaker cable, a switch for the integrated phono stage (in case you want to make use of the C62’s RCA outputs to connect the deck to an external amp or powered speakers) and a power on/off switch. Certain items can take longer to source than the estimated week, particularly during busy trading periods and may take longer to arrive at our warehouse.

Read more about the seller notes “This is an ex catalogue item, we have inspected it and found it to be in Damaged Condition, there may be damage to the packaging. With the ability to improve your magnet and stylus to one that suits you as your collection grows, the fidelity can go as high as you want it. Crosley supplies everything you need in terms of cables, and set-up is straightforward in the extreme. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.Singers sound barely present, and the overall lack of detail retrieval sucks any animation or character from vocal performances - and there’s just a little hint of the phasiness that becomes more obvious the higher up the frequency range we venture. And it’s rendered even less enjoyable by the fact the platter itself is rotating with less speed-related stability than is absolutely ideal. If you live on an island or a remote area, we have to charge you the additional island/ remote area surtax. Two speed modes (33 1/3 and 45 RPM) and compatibility with all vinyl sizes mean that the C62 can handle anything.

If you are using Phono Out on your Crosley, make sure you are using a preamp or use the Phono In on your amplifier. The speakers and the deck of the review sample are wrapped in walnut laminate, but you can choose black or grey if you prefer.

Negative wires will be black (if wires are the same color, these wires will have lines/dashes to differentiate) and connects to the black inputs. The speakers have two hanging wires (positive and negative) that will connect to the red and black inputs on the back of the unit. There’s next-to-no dynamic variation in the way it presents a recording, no light and shade in the individual sounds and certainly no real body or assertiveness to the overall presentation. If you have recently purchased a replacement power adaptor from a third party, it could have the wrong polarity for your turntable. So while there are systems from the likes of 1 By One (visually very similar to the C62), Victrola (a kind of pre-war stereogram vibe) and Looptone (like a trolley-dash around Tandy), we’ve yet to hear them and so must reserve judgement. It doesn’t look like much when it’s written down, because it isn’t - but when you’re used to a particular song, and it starts playing just fractionally later than its actual beginning, it’s disconcerting to a disproportionate degree. Set-up took about 10-15 minutes, and the only thing I had to read the manual on was “balancing” the tonearm. Of the brands vying to part you for similar money for a similar level of functionality, Crosley is by a distance the most high-profile of the lot. I'm new to vinyl, and ultimately what I like about this is that it looks and feels like some turntables that cost hundreds of dollars more.

Crosley has made quite a name for itself where deeply affordable turntables, radios and cassette players are concerned. The matching MDF speakers look just as good as the turntable and each rock a mid[1]range speaker and tweeter. Whether you live in a sweet designer loft or a teenage bedroom filled with angst, the C62 can hold its own. Then it’s just a question of fiddling with the anti-skate control, connecting the supplied (and brief) lengths of bog-standard speaker cable to the turntable at one end and the speakers at the other, and plugging into the mains. If you're running a script or application, please register or sign in with your developer credentials here. And there’s a slight, but definite, suggestion that the platter isn’t turning at a consistent speed in this review sample.
