About this deal

There are twists and turns galore, as I’ve come to expect from Koomson, but I did not see the ending coming at all and I was shocked, but in a good way. In a parallel story, with a different timeline, we see where Cleo is now and learn how she reached that place. I did like some of the characters, especially Sidney, but felt that a good story became a little fantastical when all was said and done. I absolutely love in books when an author takes a fact, such as this and uses it, expands it and builds a very intriguing interesting character such as this.

Dangerous, compelling, obsessive love mixes with murder, violence and desperation until the story comes to a head with an unexpected reveal. Things really start to fall apart, though, when someone tries to frame her murder – in the same ways as the crimes she makes up. Her published titles include: Tell Me Your Secret, The Brighton Mermaid, The Friend, When I Was Invisible, That Girl From Nowhere, The Flavours of Love, The Woman He Loved Before, Goodnight, Beautiful and The Chocolate Run. Written with a clear and non-judgemental insight into the human psyche, the story gathers pace and left me breathless.I certainly couldn’t predict how the story would eventually play out, anyway, and it constantly took me by surprise, so this was such a great reading experience for me overall. Who is trying to frame Cleo and just why is she pressing self-destruct on a life she is seemingly happy with? Somehow the first few chapters read like any other women's fiction book to me, especially because I chuckled quite a few times. However, as she drafts her final ever episode her life turns upside down and people she knows start getting hurt and it soon becomes clear that someone is trying to frame her for murder and she thinks she knows why.

However, as time moves on and Heath is still there in Cleo’s life, she does fall for him, and at first they are deliriously happy. She falls for him and at first they are very happy together, but Heath isn't who he appears to be and his behaviour becomes out of control and his jealousy increases. I use my writing to try to explore what I’m feeling, I try to get into the heads of other people so I can see things from their point of view. It’s hard to say too much because I don’t want to spoil anything for anyone who might be thinking of reading it.With very strong and expertly drawn characters I found myself invested in them all the way through, though there were some necessary distasteful ones. We know that Cleo is choosing to implode her own life, which seems to be going well, and we find out why through chapters dispersed throughout the current timeline that provide us the background that leads to her current situation. Writing is all she's ever wanted to do, and baking and murder stories have proved a winning combination. But now she has decided to walk away from it all including her husband, Wallace, before her past secrets catch up with her.

Hanging out with her best friend Trina and trying to persuade geeky Heath that she doesn’t fancy him. The story then flips back to her student days where she first meets Heath, a fellow student who develops an obsession with Cleo that never ends. Both of them love rom-coms and they use this to discuss the guy who was staring hard at Cleo who proves to be Heath Sawyer.Back in the present, Cleo finds herself under police scrutiny as murders start to occur that mimic the way Cleo crafted deaths for her Baking Detective series.

Once I had finished this course, I was going to make sure I had all the tools to start and finish a book. Although this is a clever, multi layered slow burner there are some jaw to the floor reveals with information bombs that explode your expectations and opinions of certain characters. I really liked that although this was clearly set after covid the mentions of covid felt natural and it wasn’t a main plot point but was just referred to in passing as a fact of life. Like the other Dorothy Koomson novels I’ve read ( The Brighton Mermaid and I Know What You’ve Done), My Other Husband is mainly set in Brighton where the author lives. Heath is really nothing at all as we first imagine, and as his behaviour becomes increasingly out of control, and his jealousy and paranoia increases, his actions have such a profound effect on Cleo.

This is another winner from a very talented author and someone whose books I will always want to read. So this is first for my with this author but I've heard lots of great things about her so when I got the offer of an early read I thought I'd take the opportunity to see what all the fuss is about and I can now completely understand why she is so highly rated. Proudly announcing that TEA BOOKS is new Serbian publisher of Dorothy Koomson :) I fell in love with Dorothy's writing with her book "My Best Friend's Girl" and I became her first Serbian editor. Usually, being in a library space, with the books and the atmosphere they created, acted like a shield to protect me from the excesses of being around other people. I was really excited about what I thought was being built up to, but it ended up going off on a completely different tangent to the one I was expecting.
