About this deal

Cnut destroyed a fleet of 30 ships of rebel vikings and in December Eadric Streona was killed by Cnut`s men because of his treachery. Early in 1013 Sweyn Forkbeard attacked England and this time no amount of gold would be enough: Forkbeard wanted the crown. After all, He clearly didn’t see—nor care—what was happening to her body, nor the bodies of her entire family, most of whom were dead.

In April of 1016 Aethelred died and Edmund was nominated king by the London noblemen, despite more widespread support for Canute. whether he was bragging about being involved in Edmund’s death, or complaining about his ‘lack of reward’ is debateable, but, so the story goes, Canute told Earl Erik to give ‘him what he is due’ and was promptly strangled. At some point Ædric managed to separate Ælehelm from the rest of group and the town butcher who was also, very conveniently the town executioner, bumped him off.Edmund went on to assemble a further army and, with the assistance of Uhtred the Bold Earl of Northumbria, plundered Eadric's lands in Staffordshire, Shropshire, and Cheshire. At Christmas 1017, fearing further treachery, Canute had Eadric slain ("very rightly" according to the Saxon Chronicle). It is thought that the entries for Ethelred’s reign were written from notes in one go, probably about 1020 and in London.

Eadric now goes to Edmund in Kent and they agree to work together or as the Chronicler says “ Earl Eadric then went to meet the king at Aylesford; than which no measure could be more ill-advised. The Encomium Emmae Reginae written about 1041 simply says of the battle” Edmund, after having assembled forces attempted to expel the Danes and battle was joined with many falling on both sides, until the evening, when the English fled. Take the example of Earl Uhtred of Northumbria, Thurbrand murdered him, Uhtred’s son Ealdred killed Thurbrand, Thurband’s son Carl killed Ealdred and Ealdred’s grandson Waltheof then killed nearly all Carl’s sons and grandsons. This single thought struggled to stay afloat as the approaching camp drowned her with physical sensations.
