About this deal

She was the least talked about character even though we had an insane amount of flashbacks where she was alive. Layne Fargo, author of They Never Learn “An unsolved murder, dark secrets and dysfunctional college days, all wrapped up in a twisty plot that will keep you flipping pages.

As I got closer to the climax, I caught myself biting my nails, tapping my foot feverishly in anticipation. The younger brother of the murdered girl has remained at the University for the past ten years and now works on campus. I also was actually a huge fan of the love triangle that was happening 😅 it’s been a while since I’ve read an interesting love triangle. Part murder mystery, part coming of age, these flawed (and somewhat unlikable characters) will challenge you in the best way possible, and perhaps convince you to feel for them just a bit by the end? This book kept us up reading late at night, and is perfect for those looking for a heart racing thriller!

A deep-seated fear of being overlooked and never fulfilling her potential drives Jess forward, motivating her ruthless ambition and single-minded focus. The promising premise centered on 10th anniversary reunion of university students which also a reason to drag them to the murder scene to solve the cold case of Heather’s brutal killing by stabbing 17 times with a scissor in her dorm room ( I still have conflicts about book’s name as you see the murder weapon is not knife but scissors ! Not without faults, a reader would be tempted to view her as superficial as she’s so focused on her image. Definitely had shades of The Girls Are All So Nice Here with the reunion theme and something terrible happening while they were at school. The other thing I loved about this book is well thrown bombs in our laps, sucker punches the author orchestras out of nowhere and the delicious fiery ending sealed the deal.

Kudos to Winstead, as it is difficult to see where the plot is headed before it actually goes there. also heather being the one that died was lame it should’ve caro, she had a lot more personality and was the reason they came together. Not the persona that they have displayed for all their fellow classmates, but they real person they are- when no one is looking. Publishers Weekly “Packed with intrigue, scandal, and enough twists and turns to match Donna Tartt’s The Secret History. But not everyone has moved on from the murder, someone has been compiling evidence long after the police have given up on the case. When Jessica and her friends are reunited, they are forced to confront not only what happened that night, but the secrets they would do anything to hide. Perfect for fans of dark academia, the well-drawn characters will remind many of their own college days. As the book progresses, the author’s expert ability to dole out subtle clues and craft convincing red herrings will keep readers fully invested; this is one of those books where everyone has a dark side and seems like they might just be capable of murder. A college reunion brings together a group of friends once shattered by a vicious crime in this thrilling debut, reminiscent of Cruel Intentions, Heathers, and, of course, the Secret History.

The plot is divided between the college years of six friends and then ten years later around the time of their college reunion. He has been obsessed with investigating his sister's murder and also the secrets of the past group of friends and their contacts.Jess’ character is a mash-up of unbridled ambition and perfectionism coupled with an undercurrent of insecurity and fear of failure. Seattle Book Review “Nostalgic and sinister, In My Dreams I Hold a Knife whisks the reader back to college. They are all in for a big shock when they discover that the reunion is also the opportunity someone has been waiting for- a chance to find out who murdered Heather and get justice once and for all. Fans of The Secret History, Ruth Ware, and Andrea Bartz will devour this dark academic thriller with an addictive locked-room mystery at its core. It was impossible to put down and I thoroughly enjoyed the dual timelines and different points of view.
